HS2 Streethay Roadheads Scheme
Fitzgerald Contractors secured a significant High Speed Two (HS2) scheme as part of the phase one enabling works for the ‘Area North’ section, which will see the overall project create 345 miles of new high-speed track to connect the city centres of London and Birmingham.
The £7m Streethay Roadheads scheme, located to the north of Birmingham was delivered on behalf of client Laing O’Rourke Murphy (LMJV). The contract involved the construction of a temporary access road from the current A38 through to the proposed A38 Southbound Roadheads. Works included site clearance and site formation works to facilitate access and the subsequent trainline construction.
Works commenced on site in March 2019 and involved a number of key construction challenges including overcoming restricted access during construction as well as the requirement for importing significant quantities of fill material.
Through early contractor involvement Fitzgerald have been able to add real value to the scheme because of our specialist civil engineering skill set. Our in-house team of planners, estimators and engineers provided buildability advice, risk mitigation and certainty of cost. Fitzgerald have successfully delivered a second HS2 infrastructure contract involving the diversion of multi-utilities and construction of a new road at the Stoneleigh Park Estate.
