Successful Completion of Birmingham Eastside Public Realm Scheme
Fitzgerald have delivered a large public realm scheme across a 775m2 area at the new STEAMhouse development in the Eastside Quarter of Birmingham. The 13-week contract was undertaken on behalf of Bowmer + Kirkland and forms a key part of the wider £60m development of the former Belmont Works Factory.
The site will provide a new home for Birmingham City University’s STEAMhouse initiative, with its aim of embedding the arts alongside traditional science and technology disciplines to drive growth and innovation.
With a contract value of £720k, our contract involved an advanced works package to carry out ducting installation and public realm works. The site team laid granite setts to the perimeter of the STEAMhouse building which our planning team phased to be undertaken across 12 work areas.
Our scope of works involved bulk earthworks and the installation of drainage together with the construction of a 5m long in-situ reinforced concrete retaining wall. The site team also completed groundworks to install drainage, service ducting, kerbing, footway upgrades, surfacing work, along with provision of lighting and soft landscaping.
