Cardiff Central Square Public Realm

Fitzgerald Contractors were awarded a £4.2M contract by client ISG to carry out public realm works in the centre of Wales’ capital city Cardiff. The revamped Central Square aims to reflect Cardiff’s ambition to be amongst Europe’s most successful cities, with BBC Wales and HMRC moving it’s offices to the Square.

The scheme incorporated high-specification granite finishes, public art, street and amenity lighting, CCTV, telematics, street furniture and landscaping.

The site is located opposite Cardiff Central Railway Station and the Principality Stadium and is subject to extremely high volumes of traffic and pedestrian movements which necessitated considerable project management in order to maintain full access to the railway station and surrounding areas. Having worked closely with the ISG team over the preconstruction phase of the project we were able to effectively plan and carry out this complex logistics and pedestrian management and subsequently deliver works safely and to a high-quality standard.
