Harwell Campus, Oxfordshire Highways Construction
Fitzgerald Contractors were awarded a design and build contract to construct phase 1A works which involved the construction of a new road and 3,000sq m car park to accommodate 115 parking spaces. The contract was awarded following our previously successful scheme to construct the new north south link road within the Harwell campus site.
The main road construction works involved site clearance, including tree felling, excavation and formation of the new route, installation of both foul and storm drainage, formation of drainage swales, installing new utility ducting and services, new kerbs including kerb drains, formation of footways, tarmac surfacing, street lighting and signage, soft landscaping and tree planting.
The car park works took place on a greenfield site with good access and egress throughout the projects duration, however the site did have buried service corridors in areas, and the scheme was delivered during the wet weather across many months in winter 2015/16.
The scope of works involved vegetation clearance, earthworks, installation of drainage and perimeter kerbs, open graded sub-base and permeable surfacing, white lining and installation of lighting columns and associated ducting. The scheme was completed to the full satisfaction of our client Harwell, with zero defects at final account and receiving a very positive feedback on overall performance, including zero RIDDORs and environmental incidents.
