Royal Shakespeare Theatre Public Realm
This public realm scheme was undertaken on behalf of Mace as part of the £110 million construction project to redevelop the Grade 2 listed Theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon. The £1.5 million contract incorporated all of the hard and soft landscaping works around the perimeters of the Theatre and included:
· Construction of all new external pathways, pedestrian steps and ramps and vehicular parking areas consisting of yorkstone and granite paving
· Resin surface dressing in hard landscaped areas
· New foundations and ground bearing slabs for Riverside Terrace Works
· New facing brickwork to river wall
· Construction of decked Riverside boardwalk
· Soft landscaping incorporating marginal river edge planting, trees and shrubs
· Drainage works to the outside of the building
· Supply and installation of street furniture (bollards, cycle racks, external signage, etc) and planters
· Supply and installation of all external lighting standards with foundations and ducts
· Road markings including non-slip chevrons and painted kerb edges to loading bay routes
During the works space was limited as the team were working with limited space whilst part of the works were being carried out adjacent to the river, presenting both a safety and logistical challenge during construction. To overcome this, a pontoon was floated into the River Avon to enable remedial works to the existing river retaining wall to be undertaken in a safe manner, whilst at the same time providing a safety platform for our team during the works to the Boardwalk.
