Snow Hill Public Realm Programme – Cornwall Street
Fitzgerald were appointed to deliver a highways and public realm works for Birmingham City Council which saw our team undertake high-profile footway and highway remodelling along Cornwall Street in the heart of Birmingham’s Colmore Business District.
The contract is a key part of Snow Hill Public Realm Programme and was awarded through Fitzgerald’s place on Birmingham City Council’s Highways and Infrastructure Works Framework Lot 4. Valued at £1.5m, the scheme’s aimed was to improve public transport interchange, connectivity and economic performance.
Key features of the project included Cornwall Street being changed to one-way westbound from New Market Street to Newhall Street. The most significant aspect of the design is a 3-metre wide carriageway positioned centrally along the street and delineated by new flush granite channels, whilst new footway areas were provided to both sides of the central carriageway.
Works were undertaken in a live city centre environment with our public liaison management plan underpinning our commitment to delivering a safe and high-quality project.
