STEAMhouse Phase 2 External Works
Fitzgerald were appointed to deliver the construction of a large public realm scheme across a 775m2 area to the front of the new STEAMhouse development in the Eastside Quarter of Birmingham, with the 16-week contract being undertaken for Bowmer + Kirkland.
The works are a key part of the wider development of the former Belmont Works Factory to £60m revamp of an old factory to provide a new home for Birmingham City University’s STEAMhouse initiative, with its aim of embedding the arts alongside traditional science and technology disciplines to drive growth and innovation.
The scheme involved advanced works a number of months prior to carry out ducting installation works. The scope of works entailed external paving works laying granite setts to the perimeter of the building with earthworks installation of drainage and the construction of a 5m long in-situ RC retaining wall. The scheme included service ducting, kerb & footway upgrades and surfacing work, along with provision of lighting and soft landscaping.
