Fitzgerald and Birmingham Hospice
Birmingham Hospice provides specialist end of life care for people living with a terminal diagnosis, and for their families. Making every moment matter for patients is at the heart of everything we do. We believe they should be able to live and die with dignity and in comfort, and access the care of their choice, whenever and wherever they want to.
We started Treecycling in 2012 – by collecting and recycling pre-booked, used Christmas trees from supporters’ homes across the city. From small beginnings, the campaign grew rapidly and is now our largest annual campaign raising over £100k for the past five years and almost £150k in January 2025. We have collected nearly 45,000 trees, and reduced congestion and vehicle emissions by saving over 40,000 trips to the tip.
This could not have been done without a significant local company as a partner to help grow and deliver the campaign – Fitzgerald jumped at the opportunity, and have been with us ever since.
We have been Treecycling for 14 years, raising over £900k – Fitzgerald have been involved for 11 years, so their contribution is immense – and every year they also add a substantial cash donation. But it’s not just the money, it’s the energy, enthusiasm and engagement they bring:-
- the first teams to arrive at our operations centre, early on a cold Saturday morning in January, with familiar faces and families, all keen to go collecting
- new ideas for organisation, development and promotion
- support from their supply chain, not only as collection volunteers, but also with materials and supplies
The campaign relies on volunteers – we know can rely on Fitzgerald to cover over 20% of the collection with their vehicles, drivers and collectors – and their presence kick starts the collection weekend. We are incredibly grateful to all their Directors and staff for their support
